The Lord lived in the manor house and the peasants and vassals lived in separate houses. Manors had to be self-sufficient and it had to provide resources. The Lord had control over the peasant and the vassals. The peasants planted the crops and the vassals helped to protect the manors. Even though the lord had control over the manor they still had to obey the kings.
